The majority of the wines made in Beaujolais were of great quality and meant to age for years before release. The problem was that there was little wine available for the winemaking family and staff members closer to harvest for them to enjoy during the holiday months. They decided to bring in some early red grapes to crush and ferment without any use of oak barrels or need for aging. Essentially Nouveau means “new wine”. We have decided to not do the festival this year in anticipation of a larger than normal harvest season. Many of our new vineyards that were planted back in 2015 will be coming on line this year and the William Heritage staff will need to allocate the majority of it’s staff and resources to harvest during the months of September and October. \nWe will consider bring the festival back for the 2020 season\, but with so many new acres of vineyards to tend to this harvest season we do not have the resources to do the festival this year.
